xL Joel: My Resignation
3rd October 2017
Hello readers! I am writing a statement I did not envisage writing for a long time, nor did I ever envisage that writing it would actually be as a result of positive circumstances. Nevertheless, today I must announce my resignation, effective Friday 6th October, as Managing Director of exceL Esports Ltd. You must excuse my rambling (there is a TL;DR at the end), but for me this is quite an emotional day and I like to express myself with words.
The reason for my departure is simple. I have been offered a dream opportunity to continue my career in esports working for one of the most renowned brands and companies in the industry – Gfinity plc. I have been offered the chance to take up the mantle as Franchise Lead for the Gfinity Elite Series. This is a dream role for me, and is the first opportunity I have had to begin a full-time career in esports, which I’m sure many of you will understand is something that was extremely appealing to me. As well as leaving my current job as a Management Consultant at KPMG, accepting this role also carried with it the necessity for me to leave my role at exceL due to the inherent conflict that would exist.
The past 3 years of leading exceL has been a rollercoaster journey and one that I am immensely proud to have been a part of. We have achieved a great deal in a short space of time and I have learned more from this experience than any other academic or professional venture I have undertaken in life thus far.
I would like to thank each and every player that has represented exceL during my tenure for your hard work and achievements that have helped propel us to the top of UK esports. I would like to particularly thank those who have worked with Kieran and I behind the scenes to make exceL in to the brand that it is today. Aaron, Bainsy, Matt, Charlotte, Leuis, KT, Tommy, David, Owen, Toby, Ceirnan, Ryan, Jono and everyone else that played a significant part – thank you. Please keep up the good work and support Kieran in taking up the reigns and continue driving forward to make exceL the exemplar esports organisation we have always wanted it to be.
To those that read this far, thank you for indulging me and keep on #xLing!
TL;DR - I am resigning as Managing Director of exceL Esports Ltd to take up the role of Franchise Lead for the Elite Series at Gfinity plc. My first full-time role in esports! My brother Kieran will replace me.
