Gfinity Elite Series: Mid-Season 2 Roundup
26h October 2017
The second season of the Gfinity Elite Series started just a few weeks ago, and following a championship run in SFV and a playoff battle in CS:GO, we had a lot to look forward and live up to. A disappointing last place finish in Rocket League also meant there was a lot of room for improvement and none for complacency all round.
With SFV moving to a best-of-seven format for Season Two, it makes every series that bit more competitive. We opened the season with a tightly contested 4-2 victory over a stacked Method roster to give us the perfect start to our title defence. In Weeks Two and Three however, we fell short with a drop in performance levels and succumbing to two talented rosters in Prophecy and Reason. This leaves the SFV team sitting in fifth place with a 1-2 record and with four series remaining. They will be hoping to get back on track when they take on Epsilon this week.
Following our disappointing season in Rocket League, we made a change to the roster and qualified for the RLCS in the off-season. This change saw us qualify for playoffs with notable victories over world champions EnVyUs and Flipsid3 Tactics. We started the Elite Series with an incredible 3-1 victory over Season One runners-up Epsilon, and followed that with a series win against a new-look Infused. In a battle of undefeated teams in Week Three, Reason came out with a clean 3-0, meaning we go into Week Four sitting in third place. We will be looking to bounce back when taking on the first place team, Prophecy, and their new roster.
A great run in the closing stages of Season One saw us qualify for the playoffs in CS:GO but just fall short to a great Epsilon lineup. In the off-season, the team gathered in Ireland for some team building and bootcamping ahead of the new season. First on the agenda was a completely new Epsilon roster, but we were still looking to exact some revenge. Despite the team’s best efforts, they fell 16-12 and succumbed to a Deagle ace by Zinken. We fell just short in Week Two to a strong Endpoint roster but secured the 10 rounds required to get those valuable bonus points. Week Three started off with the team carving out an 11-round advantage against a lacklustre Infused team. We went on to record our first victory of Season Two by a 16-7 scoreline. This week we take on a Prophecy roster still looking for their first points, while we look to push on from our current sixth place.
It has been a mixed bag of performances among our rosters so far this season, but with over half the games still to come we will be looking for some consistency to secure playoff qualification for all three games.
